A “good” tired

One of our philosophies of ministry is to make an impact in the community.  This weekend Lifesong church did our first “public” servant evangelism project.  During the Griffin Mayfling (local Spring festival) we had a free baby-changing station, gave out info on the church and handed out millions (not really… but it seemed like it!) of balloons with www.lifesonglive.com printed on them and took in hundreds of survey cards.  It was GREAT!

After over a year of private preparation, it was awesome to get to begin to share the dream of Lifesong with our community.  Of those that we had the opportunity to speak to, the response to our church was great.  The most common question was: “Where are you guys going to meet?”   I enjoyed the opportunity to share that we did’nt have a building, and probably would’nt for some time, because we were more interested in building up people not buildings.  I think that the vision of Lifesong resonated with some and that we may even see some join the launch team from this event (maybe even you :-))!

I am also pumped that www.lifesonglive.com is up and running as of this Friday!  The site looks great (much props to Wes & Eric) and will be a great tool for the church!

It has been a long weekend, and the team and I are tired… but its a “good” tired!

Thanks Michael…

Tammy & I visited Journey church (www.journeynow.org)  in Griffin today.  It was a great experience, not so much for the service (which was cool) but for the chance to meet their pastor Michael Moody.  What a great guy with an awsome, humble spirit.

I appreciated the spirit of encouragement and cooperation that he extended to us and especially the prayers!  Thanks bro, I look forward to getting to know you better and helping each other on this journey!

Something that he said to me today has had me thinking all afternoon.  Michael made the comment that, as church planters, we are constantly asked the question: “Why start a new church, don’t we have enough?”  He made this statement that I find amazingly insightful, “We look at the need for new churches, not based on the number of churches that already exist, but on the number of people who are lost and need to hear the message of Christ.”  When you put it in that perspective, it really highlights the need for more churches that will do all they can to reach people with the Message of hope found in the Gospel.

While many of us have been arguing over really insignificant things (Bible translations, music style, dress codes, service times, etc…) we have allowed our community to go to HELL while we sit in our stained glass buildings and complain about the condition of the world around us.  Studies have shown us that THE most effective evangelism strategy is starting new churches.

Michaels message today was from Matthew 5 where Jesus tells us to be the light of the world.  New churches are like new lamps, they tend to shine brighter than older lamps (not because they are better) because they have not had the time to have loose the intensity of their flame.

Turn it up!!!

lifesong-logo.jpg

Man, ain’t I cool!  Blogging on the WWW!  For those of you who know me well, you know that I am not the most tech savvy guy, heck I usually need help every other week to fix what I have messed up on my laptop!  Yet, this tool is an awesome way to keep people updated to what is going on with Lifesong church and a way for people to get to know me (as scary as that is) and my passion to see this generation reached with the Message of Christ.  I look at this blog like another pulpit.  A place to cast vision, share my amazing wisdom (insert sarcasm here), and post the ramblings of a scared to death church planter!

I do have a few concerns though.  What if only my wife and a guy in the mid-west looking for a new cult-leader read this thing?  What if people actually do read this blog and find out just how messed up I am!  What if I’m not a good blogger (what does that mean)?  What if…

That is a question that I have been asking alot lately… What if?

What if I really followed God’s call in my life with all my heart?

What if we started a church that would do everything that it could to reach those who are disconnected from God and His people?

What if church was’nt a place to go to and instead became who we are to become?

What if I was as concerned with pleasing God as I am with pleasing people?

What if…

Well, we are going to find out!  We are going to turn up the volume in Griffin with God’s message.  I am going to update this blog several times a week and see where it leads.  Check it out to see what is going on behind the scenes with Lifesong church.  Be patient, I am new to this blogging thing and I don’t really know what I am doing, but hey, I don’t know much about starting a church either, so they will both be an adventure!  I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Lets turn it up!!!

I am pumped about our info cards that we will be giving away at the May Fling (local Spring festival)!  Props go out to Eric Baker for putting the design together for us!

We are going to be doing our first community service event in less than a week at the festival.  We are providing a Baby-changing station for those who need it, giving away balloons (with www.lifesonglive.com printed on them), doing a brief survey of those who are there and giving away an Ipod, basically meeting with people and sharing the dream of Lifesong!  Man… I am jacked about next week!  Our first “public” event to let people know that we are coming!
