Totally worthless talent…

This is totally worthless, but it is pretty amazing… some people have too much time on their hands (yes, the pun was intended)…

Really Bad Church Sign…

I saw this sign in front of a church today… this one makes my top ten list of really bad church signs…

“And we shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house.”

Yes, I know that this is a verse in the Bible, no… it still makes a really bad sign!  What is the purpose of the sign?  If a person who is unchurched saw this, would this make them come in?  Of the 31,103 verses in the Bible, this is the most important?

Sunday Night Thoughts…

  • WOW, it was an awesome day.  I really expected us to be WAY down in attendance because of it being a holiday weekend, but we had more people today than we have had since we launched… Very cool!
  • Set up/Tear down was difficult today… it rained (does it do that in GA anymore?), it took a little longer to get everything done, but the team did a great job getting through it!
  • The band ROCKED (no I mean they really ROCKED) today!  They even played a song that I don’t like and made it sound good… that is talent!
  • We kicked off our Mythbusters series today, this will be a really interesting series.  I am excited about it!
  • I bet I am the only pastor in town (probably the WORLD) that sang a couple of lines to Vanilla Ice’s “Ice, Ice, Baby” today!  Listen to the podcast (should be up by Tuesday) to find out why.
  • It was awesome to sign the checks tonight on Lifesong’s first ministry checks.  I am pumped that a church that is just over a month old is giving 10% of offerings to other ministries.  We are about KINGDOM growth, not just growing this church.
  • I dropped in on Kidz Craze today… they were having so much fun makes me wish I was a kid again!
  • We are partnering with some local schools to help needy families this Christmas… look for the “Blessing Tree” in the lobby starting next week.
  • Hey Lifesong, the best is yet to come!

Fall Family Roundup Pictures…

Check out the pictures from the Roundup here.  We had alot of fun and had the opportunity to make a impact in our community… very cool!   I am not against churches having their own events, but I think there is a greater return when we go to the people instead of asking them to come to us.

Sunday Night Thoughts…

  • We wrapped up our Baggage series today… really sad to say that it is over, I think God did some awesome things through it.
  • I know I say this every week, but set up went better than ever… The Lifesong team is amazing!
  • The theater has been great for us and they are great to work with, but… they threw a wrench in the plans telling us today that over the Christmas season they will be starting movies as early as 11:30!  We will have to adjust a few things… but its not a really big deal and will only last a few weeks.
  • We had a good time at the Fall Family Roundup on Saturday… we are not a church that is in to country music or cloggers, but we still had a good time and had a chance to meet folks in the community.
  • It is GREAT to see guests returning… we have many who are becoming “attenders”… very cool!
  • We had a ton of kids today!  Its great that kids WANT to come to church!
  • Got the chance to hang out with some of the guys from the church tonight and catch a movie and dinner.  Its awesome to see relationships growing!
  • We had some guests today that came because they heard the pastor from another church in town bash us during his message.  I shouldn’t be surprised, the Pharisees are alive and well.  I guess God can ONLY work in a building with a steeple and pews.  Oh, by the way, they said Lifesong was great and they would be back!
  • Thank you God for allowing me to pastor this church!

Know Fear…

This weekend we are wrapping up our Baggage Series and dealing with the Baggage of Fear.  I am looking forward to this message because, honestly, I deal with this everyday.  Starting Lifesong is a risk… a BIG one for me and my family.  I confess to you that I worry at times about failing as the leader of this church.  I worry about alot of things..

Every Sunday I fear that nobody will show up.

I fear that we wont have enough $$ to cover expenses.

I fear that I will screwup as the pastor and hurt the church.

I fear that we wont have enough volunteers to do everything that needs to be done.

I fear that we wont see life-change in people… that we will just go through the motions.

I know that I shouldn’t have these feelings… but I do, just being honest.  I have failed before (I have a PHD in failing), I dont want to do it again, there is too much at stake!

As I have been preparing for this weekend, I realized that this message is for ME.  I need to be reminded…

That God does not give us a spirit of fear… but of courage

That if God is with us… NOTHING can stop us!

That no matter what ANYBODY says… Lifesong will prosper because God is in it!

I know that Sunday is going to change lives… this message already has!  See you Sunday.

Sunday Night Thoughts…

  • Had a great week at the beach for my annual golf trip… but it is good to be home, I really missed my girls – all three of them!
  • Today was simply awesome, I was worried at the start, really a strange vibe during set-up and we were missing several volunteers, but once the service started it was like a switch was thrown, very cool!
  • The band switched gears today and did a more acoustic worship set… man, it was good!  We are blessed to have such an awesome band.  Our drummer wont be available next Sunday… anybody want to play???
  • I got an email from a guest this afternoon letting me know that her four year old said that Kidz Craze was awesome and he wanted to know if he could come back… very cool!  Our kids ministry volunteers are great… most of them have not been in a worship service yet because they are busy working with the little people… I hope that changes soon!
  • The message really connected with people today… I heard several stories after the service about how God worked through it… alot of people are dealing with the baggage of depression.  You can listen to the podcast hear starting Tuesday.
  • We are partnering with Truett’s Grill this Saturday from 11 – 4 for a Fall Family Roundup… its going to be alot of fun.  Hay rides, scarecrow decorating contest, games, bounce houses… come by and see us!
  • Even being short on volunteers set up and tear down went the fastest it has ever gone… great job everybody.
  • Next week we rap up the Baggage series with the baggage of fear, then we kick of Mythbusters… stay tuned!

Sunday Night Thoughts…

  • I was so excited about today I couldn’t sleep last night… wide awake at 5am!
  • It was an awesome day, we had a really good crowd, almost as many as launch Sunday!
  • We had a record offering today (not a hard record to beat…  but still), this is not the most important thing but it is a good sign.  Finances are ALWAYS a concern for a new church start… God is taking care of His church… Very cool.
  • Everything really “clicked” today… set up went GREAT.  I am so proud of the team, they are getting it done!
  • The band nailed it today, great job guys… and girl (aka worship diva)!
  • I struggled delivering the message today, like I was out of sync.  I am glad that God works in spite of my shortcomings.
  • Headed out after the service to Myrtle Beach for my annual golf trip.  Going to spend some time hangin with my close friends, play some golf, recharge, and do some planning and dreaming for Lifesong’s future… better look out when I get back!
  • Thank you God for letting me be a part of this!

Dont Miss Sunday!!!

I am pumped about this Sunday!  I sat in on band practice last night… man, they are awesome!  We are talking about emotional baggage, and I believe that God is going to heal some wounds this weekend that people have been carrying around for a long time.  EVERYBODY has emotional baggage… some have more than others, but we all have some.  See you this weekend, come expected God to do something amazing!
